Midtown –
the best of all worlds

It has been mooted for several years now but, at last, the bustling area of London that stretches from Tottenham Court Road in the west, to Farringdon Road in the east, has assumed its legitimate place among London’s most sought-after locations.

The Midtown brand, until now monopolised by Midtown Manhattan, has gained worldwide recognition. Just like its American cousin, London’s Midtown epitomises our busy capital city, bursting with energy and life. The area blends tradition with innovation, industry with art, work with play.

When the Elizabeth line finally gets moving, Midtown will be bookended by two of the busiest stations on the new east-west route:

Tottenham Court Road and Farringdon. In addition to this exciting transport game-change, a new breed of hoteliers, restaurateurs and retailers have come to the area to cater to the ever-increasing demands of the high-end office and residential occupier population.

Recently, some of the world’s best-known businesses have chosen Midtown as their London headquarters. McKinsey has announced it will be moving from its central London offices on Jermyn Street to the spectacular Post Building, bounded by New Oxford Street and Museum Street. This building, due for completion in the first quarter of 2019, stood empty for more than 20 years prior to redevelopment.

The adjoining site at 1 New Oxford Street, which demonstrates how to refurbish an Art Deco gem without losing its charm, has been largely occupied by Swedish fashion powerhouse, Cos. Other notable tenants of the district include media heavyweight, LinkedIn, which chose to relocate to The Ray on Farringdon Road from its former home on New Oxford Street.

It is hardly surprising that most of the recent redevelopment and subsequent leasing successes are located close to the new Elizabeth line hubs at either end of Midtown. However, there are plenty of exciting things happening at the very heart of London – in and around High Holborn – which is capitalising on the continuing success of the area. Allsop’s central London leasing team has been instructed on more than 100,000 sq ft of developments in the area, which offer forward thinking businesses exceptional space at competitive rental levels. The secret of Midtown’s success is simple: amazing infrastructure and excellent proximity to both the West End and core financial districts allows this area to offer tenants the best of both worlds.
